Confucius say: Life is like pot luck; everybody is invited if they have something to offer.
Confuse people or self?
Just writing about the word ‘confuse’ is confusing. I don’t know where to start! Maybe a point of relation is required. Hmmm
But before that, why am I even writing about the word ‘confuse’ it’s not such an important word at all. It is relatively negative it has no core value or benefit. It labels a person incompetent.
But still, the word is intriguing. Haven’t you ever had one of those days where you say a word and then ponder over it thinking “this is such a weird word!” pronouncing it feels awkward but yet it’s a word you’ve used before its only that now you feel it’s ‘awkWORD’
My word for the day is ‘Confuse’ and frankly I find it a very funny word. But inadvertently the funnier the words the more serious are its effects.
People get confused in relationships, does he/ she love me or not, is he/ she the one etcetera.
We get confused while deciding whether to run down to the store first or have a bath.
It’s confusing to decide at a restaurant whether you want Indian or Chinese or neither.
Confused...
I guess another way of putting it would be; to be confused is to have uncertainty prevail or indecisiveness, failing to make up our mind.
Why do we live confused, why can’t we just make a decision?
Hah! If it were that simple the word ‘Confuse’ would not exist and I would be without a ‘funny word of the day’.
So basically, if confused is to be indecisive or failing to make up our mind then the original culprit of being confused is our Brain.
The Brain: While cats have retractable claws, eagles have super vision, bats can hear supersonic sounds, dogs see in the night (so do many other animals), and so on we the human race were endowed with THE BRAIN!
The Brain is what makes us the ruling species on earth… pfft!
And it’s the sole cause of our confused state…
Hmm, but why does the brain do that! I guess because we just think too much.
But what do we all think about? God knows, and I’m sure he’s laughing!
'Thinking’ the function of the brain is now the new suspect of our confused state.
We think!
Thinking is not harmful. But thinking too much is basically over analyzing something!
What?
Anything! It could be about food, work, games, and relationships anything!
I guess we think so much that we take leaps and bounds and assume many things along the way hence causing false deductions and therefore leading to confusion.
So then I guess the real cause of confusion is assumption!
We assume things, like here’s an example:
Guy thinking: should I ask that girl out or not what if she slaps me, or worse snubs me off giving me the cold shoulder. I’ll never get over it. What if she laughs in my face and says YOU WISH! And then everyone will laugh at me. I’ll be the laughing stalk of the whole school and then the neighborhood. My friends wouldn’t want to be seen with a loser then I’ll have no friends. I’ll be alone. My family would still be there but they’ll have to find a girl for me and ….
Girl Thinking: I wonder if he’s going to ask me out. Why isn’t he... is there something wrong with me.
And so on and so forth and hence forth!
We assume. But assuming can also be interpreted as thinking ahead right? Like adding a big ‘What if’ to everything we do. But if we do that we would manage to convince ourselves of not doing anything because all what ifs end with a simple ‘what if I fail’!
So the real reason is we are afraid, afraid to take risks.
What I’m deducing now is confusion is caused by the fear of risk taking.
Shouldn’t we have to take risks sometimes in our lives? I mean it’s like Marlyne (Nemo’s dad) promising himself that he would never let anything happen to Nemo… then nothing would ever happen to or for him.
Hmm … Risk!
Why don’t we take risks? Because we imagine the worst!
WAIT! So imagination is the real cause of confusion…
That would make creative people the most confused people on earth!
I’m a self proclaimed creative guy… am I confused? No!
This monologue might make it seem that way but I’m not… I’m just typing out loud.
So I’m not confused… yet! So that deduction would be incorrect… imagination is not necessarily the real cause of confusion.
So is it the lack of adventure… spontaneity?
The fear of breaking routine, doing something other than the mundane, restraining us from breaking out and enjoying oneself that’s what confusion does! … Oh! Right! That’s what confusion DOES! It’s not the cause…
So we are not spontaneous! Why?
Because we can’t choose whether to go to office today or just take the day off. We choose office because we think door number two would cause severe repercussions, we imagine the worst hence the real cause of confusion is choice!
We have too much to choose from! If we take the day off then we would have to deal with what to do the rest of the day! Do you watch a movie? Do you play golf? Do you stay home and just laze? Then you remember that none of your friends have taken off hence you would be all alone. Nobody really wants to be alone. So you start ‘Self Motivating’ yourself. Telling yourself that office will be fun today, but then… it’s not!
Now you’re not confused! You’re just upset you didn’t just take the day off!
So choice leads to confusion which leads to disappointment.
Man that’s depressing. I suddenly don’t like the word ‘confuse’ anymore… it’s lost its appeal and charm… and it sounds abhorrent!
Abhorrent… heh heh funny word…

BREAKING NEWS
Redefining Storytelling!
I started the blog so that someday I could figure out its purpose!
Today while reading the papers I realized the purpose actually I have a better and simpler word… I realized a need.
The news today is filled with corruption, rape, murder, extortion, embezzlement, betrayal… filth. That’s a story we have all heard a million times. I don’t remember the last time I opened the papers and actually read a story which made me feel warm with contentment and meaning inside. Stories are paid for now-a-days.
Somebody’s nobody is on page 3 and nobody’s business makes the headlines!
What’s happened to the news! Current affairs? Bullshit! This is criminal. I would never advise my kids to read the newspapers at this rate! Poor kids would live in fear… they would on the first chance bribe a cop rather than talk and resolve! Or better receive whatever punishment with grace and humility.
Maybe I stretched that too far but I honestly do feel that if the ‘news makers’, by news makers I mean channels and editors, wanted!!! Their channels, papers or magazines could have a section that focuses only on the good that’s happening in our town, city, state and country.
Not long ago! I read a small article on the left hand corner of a TOI. The article or story was about a man who married a lady. Not entertaining? Well the lady was banished from her village and her family because she was diagnosed with AIDS. She used to travel in the local train for 4 hours or so everyday to go to work and would then return home. A man on the local train saw her and fell in love. She at first, though she wanted to, did not reciprocate his love as he did not know of her ailment. He persisted, she finally told him …
Best part of the story… he didn’t mind the fact she had AIDS he said ‘we will take the required precautions”… they got married had a child and till date the child nor the Husband have AIDS… and she is living a ‘normal’ life!
The man here is no hero... he’s just educated. But this story has never left my mind!
I don’t know what’s happened of that family or of the lady or her husband and child! But that story gave me hope! It gave me reason to believe that mankind had some humanity left in them.
FEELGOOD FACTORS are important to make you feel good about yourself. And reading, listening or witnessing these awesome moments makes one feel so good about themselves. That story has kept me going for years… I scan the papers daily to try and catch a story just like that again… but with no luck!
If there is a person getting robbed every minute of the day somewhere in the world then I’m sure there is someone giving charity every minute in some way or the other somewhere in the world. Everything has a balance… hence our news needs a balance.
Therefore, just for starters… let everyone contribute. If you did something good like… made it to your dads 50th birthday on time, or helped a lady cross the road or helped a little girls cat down from the tree… whatever the act write about it here and let the world know… it all just has to start.
I don’t necessarily mean something you did to make someone feel better… it could be something that happened with you that made you feel better too… Something someone did to or for you that made you feel great! Something as simple as a smile!
I’ll start with my story.
I was on my way back from work, this was a year back, and I was tired, irritable hungry and was obviously stuck in traffic. I was at the Golden Dragon fly over before IIT flyover and it was raining. While furiously cursing my misfortune I heard the typical tape of an urchin on my window. I ignored, he tapped again and again and again… I didn’t even look. Finally one small faint tap hit my window and I swiveled my head, rolled my window down and in the crudest manner yelled ‘KYA HAY, NAHIN CHAHIYE, CHAL BHAAG’ (What do you want? I don’t want anything! Get lost). The little boy was just smiling, teeth and all. I felt stupid. He then said four very simple words… “Please! Take just one…”
He was holding up a heart shaped balloon…
He had just one with him… it was more or less deflated.
I smiled back… paid for it … took it… and rolled up my window.
Suddenly the rain didn’t seem so bad, the traffic sort of melted away… I put my music on, drove home… and on reaching realized… what that one smile did to me…
What I hope to achieve is that someday when we have enough stories we could approach a publication and maybe just maybe convince them to devote one page just one page to these articles and stories…
If you’d like, you could email me your story at arjunbhimwal@gmail.com as well. Or just comment on this blog and let the stories do the talking.
